Fabrics, Seasonality, and Colors: A Practical Guide to Choosing Trousers

Fabrics

For sports trousers, natural materials are preferred — cotton, sometimes with a small amount of synthetics.
Nowadays, artificial fabrics have improved: they are durable, wrinkle-resistant, and pleasant to the touch, sometimes costing no less than natural fabrics.
Choose brands you trust. Using synthetics doesn’t always mean saving money; sometimes it can be more expensive due to special properties.

High-quality synthetic fabrics can breathe as well as natural ones, resist wear, and are easy to care for.
Natural fabrics, unfortunately, wear out faster — this is normal.

Why add synthetics like polyester, viscose, or Lycra?
To add comfort: the fabric becomes elastic, stretches well, but should not be too elastic, otherwise, trousers will look like leggings or cycling pants, and the fit will be lost.

For casual trousers, it is recommended that synthetic content does not exceed 20%.
Jeans, slacks, and chinos are mostly cotton, with no more than 5% elastane — they crease less, are more comfortable, and hold their shape.

Casual trousers include not only slacks, chinos, and jeans but also elastic-waist trousers with stitched creases.
They may contain up to 50% synthetics, providing high comfort, stretch, and the ability to machine-wash.
Elastic-waist trousers can be made from any fabric: linen or silk for summer; tweed or flannel for autumn and winter.

Seasonality of fabrics

Pay attention to fabric density: 220 g cotton and 320 g cotton are completely different fabrics.
In winter, choose warmer, heavier fabrics; in summer, light and airy ones.

Colors

The most versatile are shades of gray or graphite — they pair with any top: blazer, knitwear, or shirt.
For summer, light trousers are ideal: beige, light brown, white, light green, or mint.
For all-season models, strict, solid colors are best: gray, brown, green.
Blue trousers are less versatile and harder to match with other items.
For autumn-winter, dark shades are recommended: graphite, dark brown, burgundy — especially dark burgundy, almost black, which looks elegant
